An introduction to single, double and triple swing, also known as East Coast Swing and Jitterbug, plus Cross-Step Waltz.
This class is an easy and fun place to start partner dancing, with an emphasis on comfort and
pleasure. Richard and Angela teach accessible styles of noncompetitive swing and waltz with a focus
on partnering and flexibility, to enable students to dance comfortably with partners whose experience comes
from any dance tradition.
East Coast Swing is an easy, fun and playful style of swing which is usually danced to faster, high
energy music such as Big Band and fifties Rock 'n Roll. Gain a solid foundation in 4- and 6-count
swing, progressing easily from single to double to triple Lindy.
Waltz is enjoying a resurgence in the Bay Area and around the country, thanks to great new waltz music
and the timeless attraction of traveling with a partner in your arms. Richard and Angela are busy
leading Waltz Weekends across the country — learn it here from the best.
These informal styles of swing and waltz allow personal expression without requiring rigid technique.
The resulting flexibility will give you the confidence to lead and follow anybody, to either fit in or
stand out as you wish.
No dance experience is required, just a fun-loving attitude and lots of enthusiasm.
If you already dance, bring a friend who doesn't. This is a great way to introduce someone to
couple dancing.
This past year has been an especially creative one on the dance floor, with new Cross-Step Waltz variations coming in from many
dancers and teachers. Twenty of them are especially good, which brings our list up to 124 variations. How many do you know?
Waltz Etcetera in Seattle just sent out their fall class schedule, featuring Cross-Step Waltz. They wrote, "Cross-step waltz is
a delightful, swooping, playful dance; it's our favorite kind of waltz and the core of a lot of what we
teach. The structure of cross-step waltz lends itself to many elegant variations, much more so than other kinds of waltz." The
director Zachariah Cassady added further, "this wonderful dance, my personal favorite, is the best partner dance in the world."
These are the intermediate/advanced variations which are never taught in the daytime social dance classes. New moves are
taught each session, including many never taught before in this series, so you can continue taking this level indefinitely.
Practical skills include leading and following secrets, plus improving your pivots.
Learn it from the source while you can. Richard and Angela are recognized as the world's experts on Cross-Step Waltz.
Prerequisite: Knowing basic Cross-Step Waltz, or being a fairly quick study in learning new dance forms.
