CROSS-STEP WALTZ MIXER

Richard Powers

Music: Any slow waltz tune, between 110 and 114 beats per minute, with 32-bar phrases.

  • In a large circle, all do a turning basic Cross-Step Waltz traveling Line of Direction for 4 bars (2 full rotations)

  • Facing into the center of the room with the Follow on the right side, all take hands in a large circle and step forward-close-close in one bar (Lead's R, Follow's L), and back-close-close (opposite foot) one bar.   An optional tradition is to glance at your next partner-to-be on the forward step and glance at the partner you are leaving on the backing step.

  • Leads turn the next Follow (at the left side) under the Lead's raised L arm with an Inside Turn:  Follows cross-step L over R, place right shoulder forward under the arched arms and turn under CCW with 2 more steps, while Leads cross-step R over L and pass behind Follows into their place with 2 more steps (1 bar).

  • Then both take a cross-step (Lead's L, Follow's R) toward the outside wall, Follows pass strongly in front of partner and pull their right shoulder back, with 2 more steps, to take waltz position at the last moment, both facing Line of Direction.

Repeat from the beginning with this new partner.
